Trukajaya Foundation
Trukajaya Foundation was established on May 6th, 1966, as a response of Christian call and initiative in the development of public welfare. The first program of Trukajaya was transmigration programme that was done in response to requests, both local churches and individuals that exist in Java and outside Java.
Today, to face the economic, environmental degradation, and food insecurity problems due to extreme climate change, with the three pillars -economic, health, and environment, Trukajaya programmes are implemented with new techniques and approaches. In economic field, the Credit Union is developed as a society based-democracy economic institution, and the network of the organic producers-consumers is hold on to fairness. In health issue, programmes are designed to build awareness for women and children about food and nutrition sources that varied based on local potential as disease prevention. Environment issue associated with the use of renewable and cheap energy, and democratic to reduce the use wasteful and damaging fossil-based energy such as biogas, wind and water power, and a non-food plant materials, such as ‘nyamplung’, ‘jarak’ and so on.
Existing programmess in Trukajaya are (1) Sustainable Agriculture to Restore the Environmental and Farmers Dignity; (2) Education of Women's Empowerment and Gender Equality; (3) Diversification of Energy to Reduce the Impact of Climate Change; (4) Development of Social Diakonia, and (5) Development of Social Enterprise Unit.
One programme that is being developed in Energy Diversification is to use biogas for poor families. In Lembu Village, Semarang, and Kendel Village, Boyolali, Trukajaya were succesful to produce biogas electricity. In Lembu, 50 families use this biogas, either for electricity or cooking. The ractors of biogas ares varied: large (fixed dome), made from cast concrete, and geo-membranes .
Started to become BIRU partner since July 2012, Trukajaya Foundation has built 77 units of biogas reactors.
