Alam Lestari Foundation
The Alam Lestari Foundation (YAL) is based in Waingapu, East Sumba Regency. The YAL’s vision is to realize the public independence in managing natural resources in equitable, democratic and sustainable manner towards public welfare. Therefore, the foundation focuses on managing information, knowledge and technology necessary to managing natural resources. The programs which have been developed by the YAL are among others, sustainable farming, rural economy, renewable energy (biogas and biodiesel) and natural resources conservation and protection. Previously, the YAL also cooperated with the Yayasan Keanekaragaman Hayati Indonesia (the Indonesian Biodiversity Foundation, KEHATI Foundation). Through the sustainable farming programs in 2005, YAL started to develop biogas and biodiesel technology. Such steps are their efforts to maximize agriculture system, combined with animal husbandry sector which are two dominant sectors in Sumba Island.
In line with the BIRU vision, YAL develops organic farming programs utilizing biogas dregs (bio-slurry) and actively promote nature conservation. YAL developed biogas with fix dome system built through cooperation with the animal husbandry agency and BLHof East Sumba. YAL is committed to develop biogas sector which sets impact on development of organic farming. Biogas is this institution’s future business target. Today YAL focuses on potential areas for developing biogas in East Sumba Regency.
