KUD SEMEN
What started out as a Village Business Unit in Slumbung Village in Gandusari District, was later legalized and known as the SEMEN Cooperative (KUD) on 6th September 1980 with a vision to turn the cooperative as a binder of members and community in improving the quality of life based on the values of the cooperative; improve living standards for members based on the cooperative's joints and improve human resources for the continuation of the development of KUD SEMEN. The cooperative's business units cover dairy cattle farming, processed cattle food, business shops, electrical business, savings and loans, and animal health services. Their efforts are of course in compliance with their principles of empowerment to encourage community participation to create values of self-reliance and self-support which is also transparent and accountable at the same time.
September 2010, KUD SEMEN has followed the BIRU program executed by Hivos for dairy cattle waste management by creating biogas which helps farmers in reducing costs. Among which are the ability to replace fuel needs of households and the waste generated from the biogas unit which is known as bio-slurry is a healthy form of fertilizer so environmental hygiene is guaranteed. PT. Nestle as their partner, has successfully constructed several biogas units for members by providing interest-free biogas credit program. Therefore, the functions and duties of the KUD SEMEN as an institution really reflects its noble cause of bringing prosperity within all levels of the surrounding society and ultimately affects the economic stability of the nation.
