IDEP Selaras Alam Foundation is a non-profit non-governmental organization based in Bali and established in 1999 when the Indonesian economy crisis was at its peak. Its mission, as part of its specialization, was providing practical programs to educate and empower locals so that they may ‘help themselves' through the use of training, information dissemination and demo and maintain sustainable growth. Their mission are to provide assistance to communities who are vulnerable to natural disasters by reducing potential risks of disasters and developing sustainable resilience and guides the affected communities so that they may regain a sense of security and empower them through the recovery process.
In order to achieve their mission, the Foundation specializes in developing training programs and educational materials focusing on several areas, namely:

The Foundation penetrates and educates all levels of society, starting with schools – having published curriculum guide books about the environment and disaster preparation for schools – to providing free materials and assistance in emergency situations. In supporting community developments worldwide, the IDEP Selaras Alam Foundation constantly create media products that can be downloaded for free on their website. Permaculture was the first program implemented by the IDEP Selaras Alam Foundation, it is apparent that their strong views on the environment and society has made them the center of Permaculture training to Indonesia. Working in partnership with other Foundations, they provide trainings and information on technicality to anticipation to rehabilitation of the environment. Their aims correspond to the mission of the BIRU program launched by Hivos – to implement the Permaculture curriculum which also covers planting, land rehabilitation and waste management.
