BeritaPangkep - Pangkep Regency Administratives develop alternative energy project namely biogas. Today, there are 114 locations throughout Pangkep which utilise biogas as source of alternative energy. Residents in Pangkep have started to use biogas to replace LPG.

During the programme launch event which took place on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, the Regent of Pangkep, Syamsuddin A. Hamid accompanied by his Vice Regent, Syahban Sammana stated that regency administratives has established collaboration with Humanistisch Instituut Voor Ontwikkelings Samenwerking (Hivos). Hivos is a Netherlands-based organisation which develops ecologically friendly energy in Pangkep.

“Should this programme works as targeted, we expect more village communities will enjoy its benefits, they no longer have to buy LPGs every week,” uttered Syamsuddin.

The Coordinator of Hivos Regional Office South East Asia’s Green Energy, Robert de Groot, stated that Sulawesi becomes a key actor in biogas development in Indonesia. He applauded the full support demonstrated by the Regent of Pangkep toward this biogas programme.

“Thank you for the support, hopefully more people will enjoy the benefits of biogas in the future,” he said.

The Head of Energy and Mineral Resources Office of South Sulawesi, Gunawan Palaguna described that this Hivos programme is based on the MoU with the Government of Netherlands. “The provincial administratives provide the equipment, Hivos provides a Rp 2 millions subsidy, the community contributes Rp 1.5 millions, while the Provincial and Local Administratives provides Rp 7 millions,” he explained.

“A single biogas reactor previously costs Rp 15 millions, and following the collaboration with Hivos the cost has been reduced in which now Rp 15 millions will enable us to build two reactors,” he continued.

Gunawan added, in addition to its low cost and ecologically friendliness, people do not need to worry about biogas explosion or in another word unsafe as the whole equipment carry SNI standard and have a 3 years warranty.
