PANGKEP, UPEKS.co.id — The residents of Pangkep start to switch to biogas as alternative energy to substitute kerosene and LPG for cooking purposes. Biogas is known to be ecologically friendly and able to minimise state expenditures especially fossil fuels.

Pangkep Regent, Syamsuddin Hamid, is highly responsive toward the utilisation of domestic biogas energy. The rationale are that biogas are highly beneficial, low cost, and environmentally clean.

He explained, the utilisation of biogas energy are now available in 114 points. Collaboration between Pangkep Regency administrative and Hivos have been in place since 2013. “The regency administrative very much responses to this collaboration and Pangkep is the region where the outcome of this programme is most outstanding and successful in comparison to other regions,” the green energy coordinator of HIVOS SEA, Robert de Groot, revealed.

Programme launching for the utilisation of biogas energy will coincide with the inauguration of the head of the vilage and the principal of an elementary school in Batara Village, Tuesday (21/12/16). During the launch, the Regent received an award for his effort to lead to energy self-sustanance through biogas utilisation introduced by Hivos. (sah/arf)
