PANGKEP, TIMURNEWS – The Administration of Pangkep Regency in collaboration with Humanistisch Instituut Voor Ontwikkelings Samenwerking (Hivos) which is a Netherland-based organization has developed an alternative energy project, eco-friendly biogas. Today there have been 114 locations throughout Pangkep Regency which rely on biogas as replacement to LPG.

During the launch, the last Wednesday (December 21, 2016), as reported by beritapangkep.com. The Regent of Pangkep, Syamsuddin A. Hamid accompanied by the Vice Regent, Syahban Sammana stated, “Provided this programme proceeds as targeted, we will expect that many more people will benefit from this programme, they will no longer need to spend their money on LPGs every week,” uttered Syamsuddin.

The Coordinator of Hivos South East Asia Regional Office Green Energy, Robert de Groot said, Sulawesi is a key region in biogas development in Indonesia. He praised the Regent of Pangkep’s comprehensive support toward this biogas programme.

“Thank you for the support, we expect to see many more people will enjoy the benefit of biogas,” he uttered.

The Head of South Sulawesi Energy and Mineral Resources Office, Gunawan Palaguna, explained that Hivos programme is based on the MoU with the Government of the Netherlands. “The Provincial government provides the equipment, Hivos provides a Rp 2 million subsidy, the community covers the Rp 1,5 million while the provincial and local governments provide Rp 7 millions,” he explained.

“Previously a single biogas reactor will cost Rp 15 millions, now after our cooperation with Hivos, Rp 15 millions will enable us to build two reactors,” he continued.

Gunawan added, in addition to be more affordable and ecologically friendly, the people will never have to worry about the explosion or dangerous as the equipment has an SNI certification as well as a 3 years warranty. (bp)
