
detik.com, Malang – PT. Nestle Indonesia is committed to establish partnership to improve the prosperity of the dairy farmers. In addition to promoting milk production enhancement, Nestle also provides advocacies to the dairy farmers in processing the manure wastes.
The waste is further converted into biogas. This processing is able to fulfill the dairy farmers’ needs. The gas produced may be used as fuel for cooking purposes.
“Thanks to Nestle and SAE Pujon Cooperative, we are able to gain knowledge on best practices in dairy farming. I have also built a biogas dome in my home, which has kept the areas around my residence clean. We used to expend six LPG tanks but now we have fully utilised the biogas,” uttered Hariyanto, one of the dairy farmer who is also a Nestle’s partner originating from Pujon, Malang Regency (10/9/2016).
The same thing is also undertaken by Eko Yuliawan, a dairy farmer originating from Dusun Sebaluh, Pandansari Village, Pujon Subdistrict. He now has nine cows and earn a net income of around Rp 5.8 millions.
“This isn’t harmful, very safe, and really helpful by eliminating the needs to buy LPGs,” Ifah disclosed when we met her at her home.
Sustainability Agriculture Development & Procurement Director PT. Nestle Indonesia, Wisma Djaja, set aside a time to visit Yuliawan’s resident to observe his cattle pen and cattle condition as well as the utilisation of biogas. He told us, there has been 7,400 unit of biogas constructed by Nestle to diary farmers scattered throughout Malang, Pasuruan, Kediri, Blitar, Tulungagung, Mojokerto, Probolinggo, Lumajang, Jember, Banyuwangi, Ponorogo and Trenggalek Regencies.
A single unit of biogas digester can save around Rp 1,000,000 worth of gas fuel and 2,000 kilograms of dried firewood annually.
In addition to the possibility to utilise cow manure and dairy farm wastes, farmers will also benefit from the biogas for their household needs.

Pariatmoko, respresenting the Agri Culture Service at PT. Nestle Indonesia, added the efforts to develop biogas will be consistently performed for the dairy farmers as Nestle’s partners.
“The most important thing is that biogas is ecologically friendly and does not produce hazardous wastes,” he explained. (drk/drk)
