Bandung, West Java Bappeda – Since 2009 up to now, Domestic Biogas (BIRU) Programme has been present in various project locations throughout 10 provinces in Indonesia, which includes West Java, Lampung, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, and Banten.

Programmes related to both national and local policies on new and renewable energies have been initiated by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in collaboration with Hivos in 2009 in which it has been managed by Yayasan Rumah Energi since 2013. As of today, BIRU programme has be co-funded by local government especially West Java with potentials to expand the collaboration with companies/other institutions.

This is further described by the Head of Sub Department of Spatial Planning and Environment of the Local Agency of Development Planning of West Java Province, Ani Widiani, T, MSHS at Ir. H. Soehoed Warnaen Conference Room at the Regional Body for Development and Planning of West Java Province. It is part of the agenda of an activity entitled Domestic Biogas Stakeholder Programme Stakeholder Coordination Meeting.

The meeting also hosted the socialisation on Domestic Biogas (BIRU) programme by Yayasan Rumah Energi to the people of West Java in Soehoed Warnaen Conference Room on June 1, 2016 at 10:00. The meeting was facilitated by the Regional Body for Planning and Development of West Java Province.

Attendees of the event include Mr. Dadan Ramdani representing the Office of Energy and Mineral Resources of West Java, Mr. Yudha Hartanto as the BIRU Organic Fertiliser Specialist, Ms. Line Meutia Moeis as the Executive Director of Yayasan Rumah Energi, representatives of the relevant Local Government Agency Organisation, a number of community members representing various groups, as well as business persons and banking representatives.

Ani added, that the utilisation of new and renewable energy has been the policy of the Local Government of West Java Province. It also prioritises programmes relevant to new and renewable energy. It has been stipulated on the Local Government Regulation No. 25 of 2013 on Local Mid-Term Development Plan.

The Local Government of West Java Province prioritises development in energy and mineral resources developments namely improvement, development, and utilisation of new and renewable energy through development programme, development of electricity by energy utilisation in which the target is to improve new and renewable energy. In term of the policy, we have accommodated our concern in West Java for new and renewable energy, Ani explained.

Ani hopes that BIRU will be better socialised by engaging greater community participation.

We do hope that this event will provide understanding on the utilisation of new and renewable energy thus it will finally be implemented in various regencies/ municipalities throughout West Java Province, she concluded.
