surabaya.tribunnews.com, Surabaya – Nestlé has targeted to support the dairy farmers in biogas construction as the dairy suppliers in Kejayan factory area, Pasuruan.

Legal and Corporte Affairs Direktor PT. Nestlé Indonesia, Debora R. Tjandrakusuma, explained Tuesday that there are 7,300 biogas domes in existence.

She has set a target that throughout 2017 all dairy farmers will have been received an outreach assistance and support in biogas dome construction.

“As our key dairy suppliers come from that area, there are 27,000 dairy farmers supplying our dairy needs. Therefore, we strive to provide them with both technical and financial assistance,” she explained when we met her at Galeri Nestlé in Karawang Factory, Tuesday (4/5/2016).

Biogas supply will help them to utilise the cow manures to convert the waste into alternative energy. Therefore, they can further utilise the biogas for cooking and lighting purposes.

“We established collaboration with Hivos (Yayasan Rumah Energi) in Kejayan area,” she uttered.

The Coordinator of Galeri Nestlé at Karawang Factory, Elizabeth Wiratta stated, the collaboration with the dairy farmers in Kejayan is also manifested in sustainable dairy farming.

The collaboration started in 1975 when Nestlé obtained a 160 liter of fresh milk from SAE Pujon cooperative.

“Through Milk Procurement and Dairy Development Department division, we attempted to convince our suppliers to increase their supply,” she explained.
