Mataram - Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is presently evaluating Domestic Biogas (Biru) programme implementation which has been executed since July 2010 in the area West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
"Biru Programme in NTB is evaluated and at the same time team in assistance for programme implementation is formed," said the NTB Province Head of Official for Mines and Energy (Distamben), Eko Bambang Sutedjo, as contacted in Mataram, last Sunday.
He said that evaluation and team of assistance for Biru Programme implementation shall be settled in Biru Programme workshop scheduled for Tuesday (12/6) in Jayakarta Hotel, Senggigi, Lombok Barat district.

The workshop will be attended by officials from Directorate of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation - Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Social Affairs Planning Bureau, Ministry of Small Medium Enterprises and Cooperatives (Smesco), Directorate General of Community and Village Empowerment - Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Directorate of Energy Bappenas and other related directorates in Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

"It is hoped that through the workshop Biru Programme implementation in NTB will keep on executed with assistance of a capable team," he said.
Eko admitted that efforts on providing alternative petrol through Biru programme implemented in Lombok Island, NTB, since July 2010, with target of 50 biogas units built.
Directorate of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation - Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources altogether with the society work with local partner NTB Development Studies Center on BIRU Programme progresses.

BIRU programme implementation in Lombok Island was started in Middle Lombok sub-district by building biodigester workshop in Gapura village, Pujut, then in Banyu Urip village, Gerung, West Lombok district.
"Advancing biogas in Lombok area has a very big potential for high livestock population particularly cows and pigs with dung as main petrol material," he said.
Therefore, Eko said further, the digesters' enhancement and functions could give society new point of view and values on utilizing livestock dung as economical and friendly energy resource.
Livestock dung utilization as biogas not only aims to provide continued alternative energy but also as an effort to mend life and environment quality.
In national scale, Biru programme executor targeted to build 8,000 biogas units for farmers in six to eight provinces until the end of year 2012.
The programme executed with various parties approaches to increase possibility on private sectors building high quality digesters with accessible expenses while introducing defined biogas technology to users.

The biogas users will be given guidance book and three years guarantee along with biogas construction training. The training itself is related to the multi-parties coordination aiming qualified development resources providing to support BIRU programme implementation.
"In BIRU programme execution there have been quality standards stated particular tools acknowledged in implementing biogas and gas measuring," said Eko. (ant)
